SkysOcean's Fabulous Interview With Dancer Sierra Rusnak

Updated: Jan 22, 2019

Dancer Sierra Rusnak

We are so excited to post this interview of this lovely young dancer Sierra Rusnak.  Not only is Sierra beautiful, but she is also intelligent and very talented. Through her inspirational words you can easily see how much of a remarkable spirit she has and how incredibly passionate she is about dancing. Knowing her mother Dr. Cecilia Rusnak for years, I'm not surprised at how amazing Sierra is growing up to be.

What inspires you to dance? How long have you been dancing and which technique do you love the most?

What inspires me to dance is the amazing feeling I get when I'm on stage or moving my body, it's like therapy. I've been dancing since I was 3 and the technique I love the most is tap!

What are some of the thoughts that cross your mind while you are performing?

Some thoughts I might have before I go on stage would be that I hope I don't forget or mess up, but when I go on stage I forget all of that and just enjoy the moment.

Who’s you favorite dancer or choreographer and why?

This was a very hard question, because I like a lot of different dancers. I train in tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and modern dance, so it's hard to just pick one because I love them all!

Who would you like to work with if given the opportunity?

If I had a time machine I would love to work with Bob Fosse and George Balanchine, but a more realistic person would be Savion Glover.

Competition can be scary, what is something that keeps you strong when the pressure is on?

Someone that keeps me strong throughout the stress of competition is my mom.

You are on a successful road already, what are you looking to accomplish for your future?

An amazing goal that I would love to accomplish is being in Broadway musicals.

What other talents do you have besides being beautiful, smart and a dancer?

My other talents are singing, acting, and I can also draw.

Have you ever been bullied or know anyone that has been bullied? What are the things that you feel could have changed the situation or can change the situation for those that are experiencing this?

I have never been bullied but some of my friends have. I think the situation could have changed if they said something to an adult that would not only listen, but do something to make it right.

Do you have advice for young girls like yourself?

My advice is to keep going and don't stop no matter what anybody says to you, if this makes you happy nobody can tell you otherwise.

Your mom Dr. Cecilia Rusnak recently posted proudly your acceptance to Osceola County School of the Arts, majoring in dance. Congratulations! We know how much work you put into to this to get accepted. What was the most challenging thing you had to do to achieve a role in this prestigious school?

Thank you! I have to say the most challenging thing I had to face was trying to get into OCSA was winning a lottery to audition. Before the only way you would get to audition was to only live in Osceola county, but now I can go to that school even though I live in Orange County. The Florida governor passed a law that all students can choose which school you would like to attend, so I had to be put in a lottery to audition and then another lottery once I scored high enough to be offered placement. We were told 180 students auditioned for 20 spots, that included band, music and dance.

I know you are still growing so I ask this lightly. What is life to you?

Well to me life is to give. I feel that we were all put on this earth to contribute in any way we can to help, heal, care, and love for one another. I'm here to entertain, I make people feel happy and I love doing it! Sometimes people aren't as nice to you as you are to them. I've learned to still keep my arms open for them. but the people that love me and are genuinely happy for me, my arms are open a bit more for them!

Besides getting into such a great school, are you working on any other projects that we should look out for?

I auditioned for the New York City Rockettes Summer Intensive Camp and I was accepted. I was in New York City on Aug 6th through the 11th!!!
